Martin Accepts Call to Disciple Younger GenerationsBerrien Springs, Mich.─A. Allan Martin, who currently serves as an associate professor of discipleship and family ministry at the Andrews University Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, has accepted a call to join the team ministry of the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist Church, a 2,000 member fellowship, in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas metroplex. The Martin family will transition to Arlington in the summer of 2010.
Martin will mentor, encourage and challenge members of Younger Generation (YG), Arlington's dynamic young adult ministry which has approximately 400 members in regular attendance. Started five years ago with approximately 100 individuals in attendance, YG has had phenomenal growth. Arlington and YG anticipates Martin will continue to develop this important and dynamic ministry dedicated to empowering, equipping and employing young adults in God's kingdom.
Martin began his ministry in 1998 with the Florida Conference. In August of 2006, he joined the faculty of the Seminary. During his time there, Martin led the approval process of the graduate Family Life Education program through the National Council on Family Relations. He held several leadership positions including serving as director of the religious education program and chairperson for the Seminary Chapel & Assemblies Committee. On a more personal level of importance, he dedicated time to teach in his daughter’s Earliteen Sabbath School at Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University.
An ordained minister, Allan holds master’s degrees in theology [Christian formation and discipleship] and psychology, as well as a doctorate in clinical psychology. He serves as the young adult ministry coordinator for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. Martin and his wife, Deirdre, are cofounders of dre.am VISION ministries, a para-church agency dedicated to equipping new generations in Christian lifestyle and leadership. They are part of the presenting team for the nationally touring marriage conferences, From This Day Forward.
Arlington Seventh-day Adventist Church is a 2,000 member congregation located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, home to over eight million people. The church has from its very beginning strived to fulfill its motto of being a “Fellowship of Grace, Love and Acceptance.” The church provides three Saturday morning worship opportunities for its diverse congregation with members representing 20 plus nations and yet thoroughly Texas at heart.
